The biggest highlights of the General Assembly for me were getting to meet up with old friends, from El Salvador and the US, and getting to meet new friends who inspired me and challenged my ways of thinking. In particular, I learned so much about Cuba's medical system and relationship to the US from fellow Sandy Kemp scholar Joanna. It inspired me to continue learning about the situation and to support Cuban medical graduates. Speaking to Juan Carlos and the other Cuban medical graduate made me more aware of just how difficult it is for foreign graduates to enter the U.S.

Emily Bhargava, long-time DGH volunteer and Community Health Specialist, introduced our panel participants. She asks us to think about what we're doing in our personal and work worlds to make change, and whether there are opportunities to incorporate the arts into any of these projects.

After an inspring talk on a model for community health workers and 'accompanateurs' here in the United States, we moved on to a panel facilitated by Jen Kasper, pediatrician, DGH board member, and faculty at Harvard Medical School.

Heidi Behforouz joins us this morning to discuss the unjust health disparities striking marginalized populations within the United States, and how Community Health Workers can share the task of helping community members stay healthy.

The results are in!

We're thrilled to announce the results of the 2012 Board of Directors elections. Each of the 18 board members sit for a 3 year term, and board alternates sit for a 1 year term. Six seats on the board were up for election this year.

Seated around the tables in the Simmon's college conference room, various DGH members share their experiences volunteering in DGH communities.  There's a buzz of lively conversation and slideshows that illustrate each partner community.  These round tables gave interested participants a chance to ask questions and learn more
